Welcome 2014!

Happy New Year!  I know that one of my resolutions for 2014 is going to be a more regular poster on my own blog!  I'm really excited about getting back into the classroom and starting the new year!  Here are some things to look forward to in the coming weeks:
  • More classroom flipping!  I'm going to be using NearPod to teach math, science, and social studies lessons online which the students will view for homework.  This will leave us more time in the classroom for individualized practice, projects, and more in-depth discussions.
  •  Back to science!  We will be starting our second science unit of the year.  We will be studying erosion and weathering, with a focus on how glaciers form and how they shape the earth.
  • Residency!  The fifth grade will be welcoming artists from McCarter Theater who will be guiding the students through some acting exercises and helping them read and understand Shakespeare.  Our residency will culminate in February with a performance of The Tempest!
  • CP-TV!  Just before we left for winter break, we began discussing what CP-TV would look like this year and what the expectations would be for news stories.  Students will begin writing stories and training on the equipment so we can have our first production by the end of January.
See you tomorrow!  I can't wait!
